Hey guys , I'm an intermediate player who's looking for a rather good voicing guitar. I'm already thinking of getting Ovation's CC24 , are there any other brands/models I should try out for ? My budget is $500 & below .

Thanks :)

You like the sound of the Ovation when its plugged in u mean? I simply cannot stand Ovations unplugged, tinny as hell. Into an amp or PA though, hmmmmm thats a totally different story. I'd recommend you go down to Luthermusic and check out some of their acoustic, the Cort MR700NF comes to mind. What are your tone preferences? Need pickup? What shape preference, if any? All very important considerations in choosing an acoustic. I suggest you go to www.taylorguitars.com and click on the features tab, they have a pretty comprehensive, if rather ornate database there that should be of great help. Do take their info with a pinch of salt though, let's just say more than 1 of my friends has found their advertising to be very good. Oh and don't bother thinking about Taylors, they're all over 500 except the Baby. Haha although you will GAS about them for ages.

Taylor are damn good.
If you're looking at value for money, i'd say Custom Acoustic. Full soild at 500+?
The others would be Samick, Fina, Takamine. Maestro too.

Hi perhaps you wanna provide more info? Preferred wood combination, bright or warmer? GA, Dreadnought, Jumbo? Cutaway/No Cutaway, Electronics or not? Solid top or full solid?

I like Ovations, both unplugged and plugged-in. I guess it's an acquired taste, they sound unique and not all people like them. I just dislike the bowl back that makes the guitars slide off your leg pretty easily.

$500 could get you a nice Custom Acoustic or Jack and Danny with Fishman pickup installed. Definitely good value for money, and they're well reputed here so you need not worry too much about the quality.

Of course, try the guitars first and do some inspection before confirming any purchase. There are 'bad' pieces from every brand, just that some brands have more 'bad' pieces than others.
