Acoustic electric effects possible?

Sorry for this noobie question.

Was just thinking since electric guitar produce a digital signal that goes into an effects pedal then to the amp to produce an effects sound

Can that same logic be applied to an acoustic guitar fitted with pickups?

So acoustic electric digital signal > effects pedal > amp = effects sound?

by the way, electric don't produce digital signal, its just a electrical signal..
