what about the gibson SG standard, faded, gothic and special that sets it apart rather than price? i dont really know the difference...

oh yea and people say the diff between the SG faded and sepcial is only the finish and the inlays... is that true? if its true isnt it much more worth it its a few hundred cheaper just for a different look

the gothic and faded falls under the special series.
and like mentioned is basically only finish differences.
anyway, the gothic is no more in production.

the standard of cos has all the binding, trap inlays etc.
but another difference is, irregardless of what ppl say that you're only paying extra for all those on the standard over the special...
most ppl who have A/B them have said the standard sounds better.

of cos the next step up is the '61 reissue, you also pay much more for it.

the best value for money SG is the SG-3 with 3 humbuckers, if you can ignore the middle humbucker and rotary selector, it is essentially a '61 reissue at SG standard prices.

ooo hw mch are the 61 reissues approx... its hard to find a seller or distributor and i cant seem to find or heard the SG -3 ... i cant even find reviews on it

woops forgot to ask wad is A/B as well... and wad is binding too? sry guitar noob

o ya.. so e only diff between special/faded/gothic to standard is the binding, finish and inlays?

and is Gibson SG special really out of production??

A/B means compare 2 guitars side by side using similar set ups i think. bindings refer to that thing at the side. like neck bindings can be white color stuff that is along the neck of your guitar.

well...i used to own a gibson sg standard and i played a sg special...first difference is the cosmetics..inlays,bindings,headstock logo etc. i personally feel that the standrd sounded better than the special..do notice the standard is covered 490 & 498 pups while the special are open 490 & 498..if u really wanna know why u are paying so much...well...go try it out...be amazed...i've always found gibsons with bindings amazingly beautiful and a nicer feel..

yea, A/B compare both guitars side by side using the same amp settings etc.

differences could be due to the quality of the wood used or even the number of pieces in the body.
standards are usually 2-piece bodies, specials can go up to 5-pieces...i've even heard of a 6-piece body special.
'61 reissues are 1-piece bodies.

Eek, any other place other that swee lee? I want to compare prices. Maybe getting one soon. :???:

Much appreciated.
