Hey, i am not sure if anyone knows but i just wanna ask if anyone knows where i can find tabs for christian songs?? Its kind hard as not many are on Ultimate guitar and i am jamming with my cell group and bass tabs are not easy to find. Thx in advance.

cell group jamming? aren't cell groups for bible study, since when did cell groups turn into jam groups.

going off track there

oh well. anyhoo, i'm skeptical about "jamming" christian songs. youngsters treat the songs as music instead of worship and praise, and often attend large "rockin" services for that reason.

aye but no worries, christian songs are pretty much easy. (that's a good thing. u don't wanna be worrying about chord changes while focusing on the worship and lyrics) Occasionally u get the "newer" Hillsong songs which, IMO, a load of chopped up riffs to randomly written lyrics. sounds good but holds no meaning. might as well be secular

+1 to crispyegg. that's how i felt sometimes. P & W got too contemporary. I stick back to Don Moen and Paul Baloche's songs. hah'

Christian Music bass is mainly about playing root notes in support of the music right? I find guitar chords( which are easy to find ), pretty much useful for this aspect.

unless you're playing songs with bass solos, just play roots, improvise here and there where you think is necessary. Focus on God, it'll be easier that way...

forget your ears and put the instrument in god's hands......

bro. as a musician you need to train your ears. bass lines are easy to 'catch' on 99% of songs out there.

its called linear hearing, you play the song and match the note with your bass....

to assist your inability, there is a device called a phrase trainer. these gizmos slow down the track or part of the track to let you learn them.

at the end of the day if you are still tone deaf, just switch to drums or play the tambourine.

word of advice: just don't act like you're flea up on the stage. the congregation will think you're possesed and will hold a prayer rally for you

i play bass for my church p&w too. it was really intimidating at first but i got used to it. here's my rule of the thumb. can't get wrong with it.

1. work with the drummer, follow his beat.
2. study the rythm of the song and figure out what bass beat works best for that particular song.
3. if you're not familiar with the song, just play a looong.. root for every verse of the song. then improvise with beats and melodies on the next round.

about christian tabs, they're hard to find. i go with the chords and create my own bassline. cause we never have heard the original song in the first place.

Haha, wah. What a dated post still got people reply. Lolz, thx for the replies but yea i agree playing root notes and occasionally adding a few rythm here and there sounds good also. haha.
