Wow, the hammering looks quite Artisan-like but the lathing is different. One of hazelshould's auctions?

Well, technically there are no such things as rare Sabians, since they custom make you pretty much anything that's not in the catalogue

nice cymbal...too bad im not too much of a fan of sabians though...haha anyways, did you get it from where weckl mentioned?

yeap... sabians are only 25 years old and they produce so much range of sound that even u and me who has the $ can go to their factory and say..

Hey sire, i want a cymbal, that sounds like this or like this. They'll make them for you! asap. and you're one satisfied customer..

this is not a cymbal that you will find annywhere because it is a custom-made prototype cymbal from sabian. if the designer of the cymbal finds that the reaction from the so-called celebrity drummers is good, then it will go to print as 'mainstream' cymbals.

mike portnoy's max stax was labelled as such before being mass produced, as with all other signature cymbals from sabian. this is not a line, it is simply a prototype that, oddly enough, shouldn't be in that person's possession unless he got it off ebay or custom ordered a cymbal.

think of it as mark I or mark II before the final product.

AFAIK, a lot of Sabian's prototypes are actually available to the general US public, as long as you're in a town where the Sabian Vault Tour is scheduled to cover. (Not referring to Singapore of course)

"Designed to give local drummers the same treatment as SABIAN's rock-star lineup, the Vault Tour provides an opportunity to get up close and personal with SABIAN's master craftsmen. The tour is about having our master craftsmen create custom cymbals in an up-close-and-personal setting for everyday drummers who share the same passion and enthusiasm for percussion that we do."

Many sabian prototypes are largely sold and available on Vault Tours, wanna tweak the sound a bit? No problem, cymbal smiths like Mark Love are on hand to do adjustment hammering for you on the spot.

I've also read of Zildjian's prototypes being sold at drum clinics (again, we miss out)

IMO, the Vault Tours have done a lot to change the way a lot of drummers perceive Sabian, a lot friendlier as a company and not just concerned about the needs of the rock-star endorsers.

yeah!! no wonder they have many people using sabians.. but if they have their tours worldwide, their yearly net profit will skyrocket..!!

yeah sabian is amazing. i've got a friend on musicianforums.com who actually got a whole set of sabian cymbals customised for him. however, he did mention that it was easier for sabian to customise existing cymbals, rather than custom making cymbals for him from scratch. it helps that he's endorsed by sabian too of course.

for anybody interested in getting a set of customised sabian cymbals... these links might help

and this link documenting his adventure in the sabian factory.. lucky shit!
