my guitar player shread all the way. if we jam for 2 hrs, he will shread till the end. he's a very very good player. but i'm getting sick.

do you have similiar experience?

well warn him. i'm the guitarist in my band, and i have abstained myself frm learning shredding. i don't want to fall into that trap.

Tell him to play FOR the song. There's a time and place for shred, and you got to do it right! Tell him sincerely and tactfully how you feel abt his playing...

Then if he doesn't listen, its time to get someone else who can go with your musical direction.

You don't need a shredder... good to have but not necessary... have someone you can work with, thats the key to a band.

many bands have sacked members due to lack of common musical direction. i once had a bassist who wanted to play only his emo songs..the problem is, he didn't even bother to learn the songs he wanted to play, and when we insisted playing the songs that we had previously played (e.g. KISS, Sum41 stuff), he got pissed so we fired him. :twisted:

haha no comment. I can't shred though i tried before. My fingers can't move quickly enough. I prefer good solos with a wee bit of shredding, if you call it that. Example, Guns N Roses songs. Slash can put in really good and not-so-complicated solos and he knows when to put in a few bits of fast appregios.
