A public letter of apology from Double Blade

Dear SOFTies ,

It seems that a couple of you guys out here who certain purges against me to an extent that profanities were being hurled at me behind my back. It seems that whenever I talk about pianos/keyboards , people would always have things against me concerning my posts. Some of my post I can truely acknowledge my mistakes but some I don't.

This I truely acknowledge my mistake...

"Haiz...am I the only surviving classical musician here?"

Allow me to share with you what was I thinking when I made the above remark. Chamin was right , A classical pianist playing on an electronic keyboard is still a classical pianist although if he/she may not be playing on an acoustic piano. The idea of a classical pianist playing on a keyboard did not come to my mind. Another thing is I should have changed the word "musician" to "pianist" to at least soften the impact because I know you other SOFTies play some form of classical instruments in your school band as well as guitar/drums/bass at the same time and by saying "musician" it might give the wrong signal to the crowd....

There was one post I posted about 2 months back concerning me complaining about my teacher giving me too much music homework. Okay so some of you might think "bloody hell , people got no money to find a teacher and you got teacher still can complain." All I have to say is that , music lessons is not what most of us self taught musicians might think of. Yes you learn new stuff along the way from the teacher BUT the teacher expects something from you in return which is of course improvement. Those of you taking lessons might know that scolding and lecturing for sloppish playing is nothing new right?
When the amount of stress piles up especially when you have a teacher who expects a lot from you , you will definitely wanna rant everything out right?

These are just a few of the many other points of contention against me in the SOFT database.

Then now I'll share with you about my personal life

I love playing the piano and in fact it has been the greatest moment that has ever happened in my life so far. I know it's weird to someone to that addicted to playing the piano. If it was the guitar/bass or drums it might be normal because trust me , I just started learning the guitar and I find it very hard to stop especially when you just want to get that simple riff mastered.

Although I would love to proclaim to people that I love playing the piano , I rather let them find out from themselves but in the context of chatting on SOFT , since it's all about music , then I guess there should no form of embarassement telling SOFTies I play the piano since it's still music after all. When they actually find out that I play the piano , I tend to get a bit uncomfortable mainly because piano playing is an expensive hobby and I don't want these people to view as some rich kid when I'm not and if there was one thing (being a rebelious kid) which I will appreciate most about my parents , is that they gave me the opportunity to learn the piano at such an "unripe" age according to the mainstream people.

Most of the time I'll bring my music theory assessment book to school and whenever I decide to practice on my theory , I'll do it in a quiet room away from my friends and if they so happen to see me doing my theory , I'll just smile and continue with my work. Some of you might think , why I got to be so "acedemic" by doing music assessment books? Because it's something which I enjoy doing and not for the sake of pleasing my teacher. In fact my teacher has completely neglected my theory drills but I'm continuing with it on my own accord.

Some of you also think ,"You play the piano and play classical music , so why are you trying to poke your nose into our rock music lifestyle? Go back to your chamber music lifestyle!" Yes I play piano but why can't I talk about rock/metal music? I listen to them too. In fact I listen to much more rock/metal music than classical....

The reason why I'm saying so much about my personal life is because I don't want you SOFTies to judge me as some snobbish and egostic fella based on what the cyberworld tells us because it's just ONLY words!
I can assure you that I am of a direct conturary as to what you see and "hear" in cyberworld....

My deepest apologies goes out to those whom I've offended in one way or another....

Best Regards
Julius

that's all cool man.

but fact remains is that if you don't like your teacher, you can always get rid of him. =P

I don't think there's a need to apologize la. You didn't say anything grievously wrong.
here's a wise saying: you cannot protect your reputation, because people like to talk. The only thing you can protect is your integrity.

Your opinion is what counts.

I wouldn't bother to explain myself to people who just jump to conclusions about you based on your own opinion - AND start hurling offensive comments at you. Would it really matter to these people whether you explained yourself or not?

But it's nice that you put in the effort. We're (almost) all nice and friendly musicians. :)

dear doubleblade, perhaps it might be helpful if you read what you write a few times before posting it. you might inevitably project an erroneous image of what you actually intend to say. and... you may also conjure a different opinion of what others might be thinking of you.

this is just my friendly advice to you, since we met before at the classical concert when i gave away a couple of tickets to SOFTies in support of the NUS symphonic orchestra.

devote your time on your music and your studies. at least, at the end of the day, it will make your mother's journey for you well spent, and that is probably more important than what others may or may not think of you.

that said, do remember to check on yourself before opening your mouth. i would hate to see you getting all these 'bashes' when you always land yourself in hot soup when you do not think before you speak.

peace.

DoubleBlade, i dont know about how other people may feel but let me share with you how I feel.

I tend to read your post because I play the keyboard a bit and also I am the moderator.

The problem is not with your love for the piano or music but the way you express yourself.

Let me use a simple analogy.

James loves drinking. He reads up on beer making and hope to be a beer champion one day. He even took up a course on beer making at Batam. With the knowledge he acquired, he is often fast to recommend his friends on issues related to drinking.

On James' 18th birthday, his friends threw him a big birthday party. Everyone was happy and since it was a "no-adult" party, his underage friends took out their hidden treasure - a can of Beer!

( got to find dinner, will continue later )

Loooooong before your time.... In the southern province of China. blah blah blah. blah blah blah.

And so, the moral of the story is?

(Deja Vu)

moral of the story at the moment is, james is hungry and gotta find dinner.. and then he can continue the moral of the story, with food in his stomach.

Each and every one of us respects every individual instrument in the band. I respect the piano a lot, cos it has a totally different tone which can bring out the mood in a song no other instrument can. Besides, it's hard to find a classical pianist who's comfortable with the keyboard.
Don't let yourself down, continue working hard on the piano!
PS: James i can't wait to hear your story. :D

Take everything with a pinch of salt. everyone has their own opinions, and not everyone will agree with u.
