Shredding has to be done in juxtaposition with slow, melodic lines to achieve its full effect.
Too much of either extreme isn't good. Life is about balance!

agreed that speed isn't everything.but it can be very good if you know how to phrase it well in a song.there's been known lead guitarists who solo in songs which dont reaally fit in,
they do it to show off.a good solo needn't be one which much technichal difficulty.if its good,its good.
