Hi Chanmin:
The 5150 combo's are fixed bias at a much warmer setting than the 5150 heads
and they will fall in to about a 40 milliamp bias setting with a matched
pair of the JJ 6L6GC's that are between a #40 and a #42 so there is no need
to modify them with a trim pot. So I would go with a matched pair of JJ
6L6GC's that are a #40 to #42's and five of the JJ ECC83S preamp tubes. The
JJ's have a very deep tight low end, a natural harmonically rich mid and a
smooth sweet high end with a nice sparkle that's not brittle. I would use a
graded and balanced ECC83S in the phase splitter hole which is the preamp
tube that's closest to the power tubes ( the one on the left when looking at
the back of the amp ). This will eliminate any dead spots and really make
the amp sing. This tube combination will give your 5150 tight lows with a
lot of thump and more definition at all frequencies. There is no way to
lower the volume of the amp with tubes.
If you choose to order online you can find full retube kits listed in the
online store for Peavey amps that will get you the exact tubes listed above.
A full retube with a matched pair of JJ 6L6GC's, five JJ ECC83S preamp tubes
with one balanced for the phase inverter would run 69.50 and I can ship them
for 13.00 by Global Priority mail with a 7 to 10 day delivery.
If you decide to place an order you can do so online (
http://www.eurotubes.com/euro-order.htm ). This is a Thawt certified secure
system. You can also place an order by FAX at 503-659-7385 All that's
necessary is your shipping address and a VISA, MC, Discover or American
Express number including the expiration date.
Thanks
Bob.
