chanmin, did u get ur 5150 from sweelee new or display set

mine was retrieved from the warehouse... so its prob brand new..
i paid 1400++ i think... below 1.5k. you should be paying less for a display model man...

haha maybe its before discount

i might just pop down to have a look at it.

anyway did u change the tubes?

are there any hiss?

yea i emailed him a long time ago... he said:

Hi Chanmin:
The 5150 combo's are fixed bias at a much warmer setting than the 5150 heads
and they will fall in to about a 40 milliamp bias setting with a matched
pair of the JJ 6L6GC's that are between a #40 and a #42 so there is no need
to modify them with a trim pot. So I would go with a matched pair of JJ
6L6GC's that are a #40 to #42's and five of the JJ ECC83S preamp tubes. The
JJ's have a very deep tight low end, a natural harmonically rich mid and a
smooth sweet high end with a nice sparkle that's not brittle. I would use a
graded and balanced ECC83S in the phase splitter hole which is the preamp
tube that's closest to the power tubes ( the one on the left when looking at
the back of the amp ). This will eliminate any dead spots and really make
the amp sing. This tube combination will give your 5150 tight lows with a
lot of thump and more definition at all frequencies. There is no way to
lower the volume of the amp with tubes.

If you choose to order online you can find full retube kits listed in the
online store for Peavey amps that will get you the exact tubes listed above.

A full retube with a matched pair of JJ 6L6GC's, five JJ ECC83S preamp tubes
with one balanced for the phase inverter would run 69.50 and I can ship them
for 13.00 by Global Priority mail with a 7 to 10 day delivery.

If you decide to place an order you can do so online (
http://www.eurotubes.com/euro-order.htm ). This is a Thawt certified secure
system. You can also place an order by FAX at 503-659-7385 All that's
necessary is your shipping address and a VISA, MC, Discover or American
Express number including the expiration date.

Thanks

Bob.

hey...gd buy...(if its cheaper than 1400)
how u planning on transporting the device?

Its a beast...hehe..and gd luck on the tubes..
mayb wanna get extra fuse as well..in case..

Chanmin, u still having that 5150?Or have u sold it already?

transporting it by car

driving there i guess

i just hope the people would help me carry it to my car

still got my 5150 in my room..it kicks ass ..

yea they will help you carry it to your car la... heng last time i driving kangoo.. just pop in to the back... its moving it to your room that is killer...
haha i remember brandon gan helped me carry it to my room...we nearly died man... just up one floor only..

Chan ..inregards to the 5150
can u get any decent clean tones?

are u able to replicate the dist tone when u jam?
Nice amp thinking of getting one...
only the tube part is holding me back..

cleans are .. ok... tubeclean.. sounds pretty beefy with my strat.. with a darker guitar might not be nice... but a 5150 aint really designed for cleans eh?... its designed for gain ..

i cant bring it to jams cus its like 40-50kgs... but if you want GREAT dist in your room,at DEAFENING volumes.. this is it man.

its wayyyy too loud for home use... but.. play at 1-2(already quite loud) ... its really killer crunch .. i tried it at 4 ... fooh ... much better sound.. but .. i couldnt be in the room... too loud. i need a hotplate... haizz..

i think those hotplate may not work for some combo amps..
why not email JMguitars....

its selling at a resonable price now..
eh bro...backoff on the gain and vol...u giving me GAS...

Hotplate can be used for combos. Just make sure the impedance is correct and you have an extra set of speaker cable (phone to phone).

tried one before and i would say that its definitely a high gain monster! the chunk when you palm mute is superb!

the only reason why i did not get it is because it has a shared eq between the clean and dist channels and i wanted my saved presets on the fly. hence the jmp1. If you are looking for a good basic high gain tone, im sure the 5150 would be great. You could check out the xxx combos too, it has 3 independent channels as well but costs more

http://www.anibalnet.nl/5150.html ----> new pics!!

ive been corresponding via email with this dude.. and he assures me its pretty straightforward... just need to get a good carpenter to chop the box with a powersaw or sumthing. and cover the bottom on the "head" and top of the "cab" with a thick piece of plywood.

im totally tempted to do this ... "Mod"... but its really quite a scary operation.. but it'll mean my personal sound/setup everywhere i go ... 60watt tube 5150 head!! shiok!!!
i read on eurotubes webby that the combo are actually better sounding then the heads ... so guys should really get the combo. cut it in half and get a 60watt head / 2x12 cab.
instead of paying around the same to get a 100watt 5150 head --> ( even more "too loud" + not as good )

OH NOOOOOOO....... What a brutal thing to do. I have the skill to do such an operation, but I think my principal will prevent me from carrying it out.

Heehee.....just that these amp are not that cheap over here.

thats the thing man .. he makes it sound so simple..even though i know it isnt... well removing the electronics , speakers ...etc... should be just removing screws and stuff right? And im aware of the stored current in the tubes or circuitry that could kill me... any way to do this safely? im quite determined to go thru with it man.. MIKE MANN HELP ME!!!! PLEASE!!

btw how much would a hardcase for an amp head cost?
(planning in advance liao)

I can do the operation at my studio workshop. But I have to warn you of the risk, there is always a chance of a disaster can happen.

I have the Jig saw, wood, drill.....etc. (only don't have the tolex cover for the new cover board, only can paint it black.)

Do you really wanna do that??

If you want, you can bring it over and we go thru the possibilities first.
