Hi guys, search my previous threads and you'll know that I sell custom made acoustic guitars a couple times a year. My last batch sold out like hotcakes and this time round will be sadly the LAST round these guitars will appear on SOFT. Previous sales were for guitars that I'd previously used in the studio but this time round, these few I'm putting up for sale are brand new. A few things to note before you scroll down to check out the guitar pix and prices.

Pickups Used in these guitars (http://schattendesign.com/HFN-Artist.htm)

  • All guitars are completely handmade & come with a hardcase
  • All of them feature buffalo bone saddles and nuts
  • Some feature buffalo bone bridge pins with abalone inlay
  • All these guitars are NEW
  • All this guitars are crafted from SOLID woods
  • All these guitars come with Schatten Design active electronics that feature a volume and tone thumbwheel located just inside the soundhole
  • Each of these precious guitars are handcrafted in Vietnam by a luthier who used to build custom shop guitars with a well known guitar company in Asia.

Hey folks, it's definitely worth checking these guitars out - I personally am playing the Full Koa Cutaway. For an all solid guitar at this price range, it is similar to and different from the Epiphone Masterbilt Series. I happen to also own an Epiphone Masterbilt, hence, I've had the privilege to compare between them. Epiphone Masterbilt's wood choices are more limited as it is Epiphone's aim to keep this series simple (no fancy wood, bindings or inlays) and cheap. Hence, it is unlikely to see them producing any Koa guitars in this series.

Here's my humble review on the Full Koa Cutaway:

Playability
The set-up is done well; action at a comfortable level and the neck suiting Asian hands. Intonation is accurate - as I'm aware Nat checks each guitar piece, making it suitable for lead playing and fingerstyle kinda stuff.

Sound
The guitar has a good projection with nice highs characterized by the Koa wood. I'm a sing and strum kinda musician, so I enjoy the big and percussive sound it is able to produce for a solo act. The pickup is also pretty good, able to compete with LR Baggs (which I have installed in my Epiphone Masterbilt), it sounds closer to a mic but doesn't not have the issue of not being able to cut through in a full band's mix.

Aesthetics
As shown in the pictures, it's got nice gold tuning heads, arms rests and beautiful wood grains. While it doesn't look as bling as a certain Taylor Swift's guitar, do re-look at the price tag of these guitars and ask yourself if you could find such deals elsewhere.

Customer Service
Go try out the guitar at Nat's place and you'll discover his hospitality and friendliness for yourself. =)

I'm not paid commission for this review - haha - just saying my 2 cents worth for a worthy deal! This is especially true for Koa lovers who can't or won't pay the big bucks yet desire to get a good full solid Koa.
