Did you know that music was once sent to space on the Voyager Spacecraft in 1977? Back then, scientists believed that music could “communicate a story of our world to extraterrestrials” and selected pieces that portrayed the diverse lifestyle and culture on Earth.

Join Joyce Teo (MA in Ethnomusiciology) as we unearth these mysteries and explore genres of world music. Gain more insights about its origins and learn how to recognise rhythms and how different sounds are created.

There will also be hands-on opportunities to create your own music using instruments such as the African “talking drums”, the Hawaiian ipu, South American tribal rattles and more. This workshop is not to be missed!
