hi guys
due to lack of members and stuff my band has become a trio
we were covering chugga chugga stuff last time but now unfortunately ive to do vocals and guitar as well i cant play stuff that hard anymore
do you guys have any songs to recommend? probably melodic heavy stuff minus the insane solos as i cant juggle both duties well enough
hope to broaden my library of songs to cover as a trio thanks!

Cream, Grand Funk Railroad, Rush, The Police, Buddy Holly & The Crickets, Rory Gallagher, Jeff Beck Group

oh.. i would prefer jamming as the only guitarist, more room for creativity.
Queen, Rhcp, Audioslave/Ratm and U2 . They're all bands with single guitarist, and they have some easy songs you can play guitar and sing along.

Twinkle, twinkle little stars? Or maybe a little bit of fingering-challenge, "When the saints go marchin' in"?
Hope it helps.

Good luck!

You can still play metal as a three piece, but I agree it's very limited. Some songs with just one guitar and no / few solos:

Venom - "Black metal"
Sodom - "M16"

Just that in the case of Venom, it is the bassist who does the singing. Alternatively, you can substitute the guitar solos with bass solos. When you cover songs you don't have to play them exact note for note. You can change things here and there...

Not really. Coroner is a good example of a great 3 piece band. All just depend on individual skills.

me and my friend play metallica, iron maiden and GnR 2 piece. cause my other guitarist and bassists never learn the songs. so drummer n i share vocals, i do all guitar parts. lol

hehe thanks for the replies
what im facing now is actually having problems simulaneously doing riffs and vocals, sometime i miss my timing and sometimes i just blank out
any advise on how to improve in this aspect?

Anyone who can give me tips on these too I would give a million pounds.

Or a leg. Either leg. Pick one.

my advice

This is challenging for me as well.

My advice would be to stick with songs with straightforward rhythm and chord changes that correspond with the vocals, meaning the chord changes are largely in line with the vocal changes and "move" together.

also, you have to know the lyrics and guitar parts really well. if you have to think about those lyrics are or are not confident in playing a certain part/change, chances are you're going to flub it up during an actual performance.

just my two cents

I'm a guitarist and vox in a trio so here's my 'advice'.

Prac the riff till its stuck in your head
Choose easier songs to play

Alternatively you can prac and sing at the same time, sorta like prac vox and guitar together, at least that's what I do sometimes....

Hope this was helpful, there's no real 'technique' for this I guess cos when you sing and play at the same time both skills are compromised, to a certain extent of course.
