2004 TOP BAND - JUDGEMENT

Guys ,

what do u think about the judgement of TOP BAND 2004 ??

well i think every thing is right but best DRUMMER i feel they dint do justice.........

i feel the DRUMMER of the first band..i dont know his name ...he is in the band headed by the best vocal winner *the no hair one*..........

He was so perfect , passionate and more a typical drummer..... He should have been awarded the BEST DRUMMER.........

I doubt if judges just wanted to make sure that all bands get something ..if u observe all the bands got some or other award.

if its so THEY SHOULD NT ENCOURAGE SOMEONE BY INDIRECTLY DISCOURAGING SOMEONE ....

guys see everyone is struggling to communicate about the contestants...such is the publicity and information by the organizers.....

The standards of singapore rock bands is high but the standards of ppl organizing and sponsoring seem to be very low....

there was no banner, poster or anything saying who are the contestants and their individual band members...looks like we shud quickly write it down when the band leader is introducing them after one song....

i went for semi finals and also finals....it was a stage on grass with small tent in front and some 150 plastic chairs scattered in front.......

the gifts for the winners were piled on the grass in front of stage......and to my surprise when awarding the gifts they called judge on the stage.....but requested the winner to just shake hands but take the prizes lying on the grass by themselves......so embarassing.........so awkward...........so low...

and in the end regarding the losers the comperor was saying 'dont worry , u are given *some gifts he mentioned*'..............as if that will make them happy and as if thats what they are fighting for........so immatured.......

i wud say overall the artists were not respected and looked down upon with superiority by the company people or the organizers...........they just looked at them as people in need rather than singapore's treasure of music....

3 shy and very simple looking ppl are the judges.....ofcourse i am just saying against their looks ..............but just that they themselves were nt looking confident............

Luckily it dint rain ...had it rained then it wud have exposed their wrong step of conducting there........already in noon it rained it seems ...all the area is muddy and when i went half hour late i was rushing to front seats and my foot went complelty into the mud and next day i had to wash my shoes for half hour.....spoiled already..........just imagine.....

overall the event was like a "VERY PRETTY WOMAN WITH CHEAP and TORN DRESS ON..... "

but the standard of music , the original numbers composed by the local bands is very nice............so i said VERY PRETTY WOMAN

well, sad to say. guess rocky havent been to rock gig over in Hongkong, taiwan, indo, aus or even america before. Rock gig doesnt mean show hold over in stadium or proper concret flooring. :?:

Someone who living their dream to be a rockstar will be there even rain or shine. i'm a singaporean who is very proud of our local band and i was there for the final showcase. i'm very impressed. They willing to perform even the weather was bad. :wink:

i've been to gig over at hk and malaysia. Its was raining then, my shoe was flooded with water but i still enjoyed the show very much..

Agreed with the publicity and awareness done, but in the end i still enjoy and winning band BAY AREA ROCBLASTA. They're really good, in fact they're awesome!

oh.. I could recognise that one of the judge is actually director of music from SAF. 8)

I liked PROJECT LIQUID's innovative composition.....

But the guy who won top guitarist is really very attractive....he played the guitar very well and got superb style......lts like as if he is having sex with the guitar.........ha ha ha..............i bet gals shud have gone crazy abt him...

well, everybody here is musical craze. be cool. the guitarist from hpynolist (is this how it spell?) he is good. he was awesome. he won endorsement by ibanez. *envy how great can that be.. did u guys saw the guitar he took? is ibanez new model. anyways, i like the bassist from bay area rocblasta. glad that he won top bassist.

i think it is spelt as HYPNOLIST. yeah, saw the guitar he won, i think it is cool. i agree that the guitarist is totally awesome, he deserve the award.

anyways, did any of you guys attend the heats? i was there and the guy with no hair (who won the best vocalist) said something quite appalling. he actually said something like "this song is for my screwed up family. i got thrown out of the fu&$@ house....." in his speech before playing the band's 2nd song. i looked around and saw that there were families with little kids watching. dunno wat his motive is for telling the audience about his sad sob story, but to actually use the "f" word in front of public audience, especially with kids around, i think it's not right, and especially disrespectful to the judges. dunno how the judges felt then.

but in all, i think that the bands played really well. bay area rockblasta was really good and tight and deserve as the top band. hypnolist (2nd place) was entertaining and the music they played from "muse" totally rocks.

i think the winners had the clear advantage of 3 vocal guys..........
they did sound very loud ,energetice n powerful coz of dat.............also they presented it very very lively .........

i think other teams will definelty think about that next time ?? 8O

Cool, i saw the crazy tapping thing he did during the semi-finals but i thought the guitarist from sapphire(sp?) was better then him overall. For those who don't know sapphire is the band of uncles who have iron maiden-like hair.

I can tell you why the first drummer didn't win...


because he screwed up.


he's not technically accomplished either and made a lot of ammateurish mistakes which musicians can easily detect. The only saving grace was that it LOOKED good... again some would comment "What the hell he trying to do? Cannot play still so much action."


The drummer of Project Liquid was just so steady and flawless. Technically the most accomplished definitely and my friend shares the same views abt him.




Let me just add a little to the post about the "no hair guy" (His name is VJ by the way from the band Scar Driven) making the comment with the f word during the heats.


I agree that it wasn't very appropriate. It has already been feedbacked to him. I learnt that it was a painful blow to him (in fact to anybody) to be kicked out of his house because his parents disproved of him pursuing music.


did you hear the lyrics of the song he wrote abt his family?
