is the 2.33mm a cold rolled steel hoop?
if it is the diff is rolled steel hoops are bent or formed into shape while die cast hoops are cast in a mold.
sonically cold rolled hoops are a softer sound and give alittle when u thwack them. die cast hoops project alot more, it gives the drum a higher end cut. side sticks are very nice sounding as well. although if ur grip is too tight the die cast tends to hurt my hand alittle. die cast hoops hold the tuning abit better cause its so rigid. they also tend not to warp.
die cast hoops to be sound the best when combined with a deep thin shelled maple drum. u get the fattness tht has alittle bite.
metal shell drums to me sound the best with wood hoops, they tend to dry the sound out more. cold rolled sounds decent on metal shells as well.
DW's uses cold rolled.
tama mostly die cast.
a very nice steel shell is the ayotte keplinger.
