1st Instrument: Guitar?

hey guys. sad to say, after all my teenage years (i'm 16), i still can't decide whether to choose between my guitar or my piano.

i started learning music on the piano, then moved on to the classical guitar at and picked up the electric soon after. i don't detest my piano, and i love my guitar, so which one should be my 1st instrument?

does anyone out there share my thoughts? 8O

hey bro im in the same scenario as u..stuck between piano and guitar..since i learnt piano for so long, piano should come first. But my passion lies in guitaring. So im kinda stuck in between too. In terms of piorities, piano would be my choice. Hope that helps

play the instrument which is closest to your heart.

for me: i started classical guitar, then gone on to acoustic, then to electric. the there was bass after some theory, then recently i picked up the drums.

but it will always be the guitar for me cuz axes have been imprinted in me for 2 years already. sure, i can play bass and maybe some drums for a gig and for other bands (i dont think drums can lah  ) but it will always be guitar. my musical life is about guitar and im practically crazy about it.

so, whatever your heart feels like playing. you play. in other words, just be yourself.

by the lippier, thanks for showing me that tommy emanuel vid. it truly inspired me and gave me another perspective on being a musician.

lol. i can only play bass. i know no other.

i'm thinkin of pickin up the sax because of listenin to spandau ballet and their sax solos. oh, and level 42 also. but the prices for a sax is !@#$%^& mad!

Since you are posting this in the Guitar section, it shows your underlying passion for the guitar.

So follow it and go guitar all the way!

However, that doesn't mean that you cannot play other instruments as side-projects, or even major in both.

lol I also learn the piano for so damn long and I'm still in a total crappy state of not able to play a full song.

Now I want to try my hands on guitar but sadly, no guidance whatsoever, and a defect electric guitar still lying for service. Maybe music just not for me :\

but for me, I'll definitely put guitar 1st instrument, always been thinking why I've wasted so much time in piano just being able to play almost nothing.

Sad

i play drums, bass, guitars.. but the one thing i have always wanted to play was keys..so i stick to whichever can make me go furthest. guitar..

Started on classical guitar then progressed to piano but in the end , I chose my darling piano :D

Play whichever instrument which you feel you can bring out your emotions with. That way, it'll be easier for yourself to learn songs which convey said emotion (or write songs in that way) rather than tearing your hair out trying to improvise over the C pentatonic major scale on a piano or guitar, vice versa

Or in fact, like in my case, I play drums and have a deep connection to it. I'm not a very technical drummer, but at least I can play something off the top of the head to like convey how I feel.

Dude you can play drums and bass too! Still say you learn very slowly? I can't play drums and bass... haha...
Tommy is my guitar hero, personality and skill wise, so ..hehe
