Yamaha PSR as Midi Controller

Hi,
This is a problem I am facing:

I have a PSR413 which I have been using for a few months, and yesterday I wanted to use it as a midi controller to control the midi on my garageband. So, I took a USB cable (from my guitar pedal to PC) and use it on to connect my PSR to my PC. However, I check the midi connection on mac and realised no midi is detected. Can anyone tell me what is the problem?

i dont know if im saying it right because i have no exp at all in this.
but perhaps its the cable?
i understand you need midi to usb cable with interface to get it to work.
pls correct me if im wrong..
but i have a PSR-E323 and this was what was told to me.
i need a midi to usb cable with interface example is Yamaha UX-16.
hope it helps in some way.
