Orchestra Model John Mayer (OMJM) is a model from the Special Editions series in Martin Guitars catalog. It comes with an orchestra model body contour and quality electronics. Amplification department is equipped with Martin’s own Gold Plus Natural set, which includes a piezo pickup and side-mounted preamp, completely hidden when viewed exteriorly.
With a solid quality Engelmann spruce top and a wonderfully straight grained East Indian rosewood back and sides, this guitar offers a fantastically balanced tone. The higher notes respond with a roundness, the mids are crisp, and the bass well supported. It is also undeniably rich in overtones, plus has a distinctive clarity when plucked.
Another strength lies in its playability. Unique from the normal OM models, the OMJM offers a thinner, low profile neck, characteristic of an electric guitar. It compliments Mayer’s style of using the thumb to anchor some base notes, such that the player’s fingers are more freed stretch and solo on the other strings.
The top panel of this model is equipped with ivoroid binding, tortoise shell pickguard and multiple rosette. This model is available in natural color and it is finished in combination of gloss and satin. Neck is made of hardwood and is attached to the body with a mortise & tenon joint. It is topped with a 20-fret fingerboard of ebony. Hardware on this model is plated in nickel.
