The Observatory represents a creative space for expression, to question, feel, search, imagine and realise. Their main desire is to take music beyond what is acceptable, to challenge and invigorate audience appreciation for work that is experimental, thought-provoking and unpredictable. Exploring universal themes from a distinctly Singaporean perspective and creating a rich musical tapestry of unconventional structures, progressive sounds and improvisatory forms.
The heart and soul of The Observatory is in its constant reinvention. With each release, the members have persisted in their experimental take on the pop songform. In 10 years, The Observatory has gone from folk electronica to prog to avant rock, approaching a more primal, new dark wave sound with their fifth album, Catacombs.
The Observatory Fixations 2012 is presented by 33rpm Vox in collaboration with Soundscape Records and BFM.
