Swee Lee sales?

Dear all,
I am a beginner guitarist looking for a beginner guitar and amp. After some searching, I have decided on the Squier Affinity Series HSS Stratocaster Guitar Pack w/Frontman 15G Amplifier, Candy Apple Red (B-Stock), as seen from here:

Is this a good choice for a beginner guitarist like me? Is there a cheaper alternative from swee lee or some other marketplace, like the buy/sell forum in soft.com.sg itself? If not, does Swee Lee still have any year end/CNY sale that I should wait for?
