Richard Galliano
Piazzolla Forever Septet – 20th Anniversary Tour

11 Sep 2012, Tue, 7.30pm
Esplanade Concert Hall

Galliano is one of the most internationally-acclaimed accordionists today, releasing acclaimed albums, delivering lauded solos, leading celebrated groups, collaborating with greats from Charlie Haden to Jan Garbarek to Wynton Marsalis, receiving the French government’s Commander Order of Arts and Letters in 2011, and making extraordinary cross-genre music.

In Jan 2012, the year of Piazzolla’s 20th death anniversary, Galliano released a new CD, Piazzolla Forever, an album that paid homage to his friend and mentor with a repertoire great tango nuevo compositions. Since its release, the album has won acclaim for Galliano and his superbly able sidemen’s revitalised renditions of Piazzolla classics such as The Four Seasons, Milonga del Ángel and Escualo, as well as the improvised Libertango and a surprising original, Laura et Astor, an emotive tribute to Piazzolla and his wife.

This September, this tribute culminates in a tour to Asia and Australia. This is Galliano’s Singapore stop. Performing together with Galliano in this concert are accomplished musicians Sébastien Surel (1st violin), Bertrand Cervera (2nd violin), Jean Marc Apap (viola), Eric Levionnois (cello), Stéphane Logerot (double bass), and Dimitri Naïditch (piano). Together with Galliano, the group has garnered great praise for its seamless, sensitive ensemble playing and freshly beautiful music.

(1hr 15mins, no intermission)
