NERD POST! iMac i5 or i7?

Hi fellow softies! After a whole entire year of think which machine to get! I have drilled down to


21.5" 2.5GHz $ 1,648.00
2.5GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
1920 x 1080 resolution
4GB (two 2GB) memory - Planning to upgrade it to 8GB hopefully Comex has it for free
500GB hard drive1
AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 512MB

21.5-inch: 2.7GHz $ 2,048.00 + $270 = $2, 400
2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 - Upgrading it to 2.8Ghz Quad Core i7
1920 x 1080 resolution
4GB (two 2GB) memory - 8GB memory
1TB hard drive1
AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 512MB


There's a HUGE price difference of 800bucks! Is it worth the money? For additional processor, storage and graphics? SIGH.

I'll be mainly using the machine for photoshop, audio editing and light gaming (specifically L4D2 because that's the only game I know how to play! haha)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there will be free RAM upgrades at Comex this coming weekend!

Your advice will be greatly appreciated!

I will not recommend free ram upgrade. The Mac will clock the ram speed to the lowest ram module. You will not know the quality of the free ram. Only Apple certify ram will make install matched rams into Macs. Of cos you can buy much cheaper matched ram module at SLS.

I can live on i5, but need to do a bit of video than i7 will save a lot time.

If you are just doing day to day stuff...i guess its make no difference whichever you buy.....

however i guess the "bigger" one will last u a little longer....
