With Pat Metheny, you simply never know what is coming next. But among the many things that make this ever-changing jazz guitarist and composer so special is the consistent level of commitment and quality that he brings to everything he does.

Whether purely acoustic or searingly electric, powerfully intense or deeply contemplative, highly composed or totally improvised-or even with some new-fangled contraption of his own design-there is always that unmistakable Metheny sensibility at work that has stood at the forefront of music for what is now approaching four decades.

After two consecutive yet wildly different solo recordings (the innovative Orchestrion and the Grammy Award-winning baritone guitar outing What’s It All About) and his 20th Grammy Award-winning album Unity Band, Metheny returns and-not for the first time in his complex and ever-evolving career-re-invents himself with a refreshed Unity Group. Best of all, this is an ensemble that perfectly brings together all the elements that many have come to love about the innovative jazz musician.

The Pat Metheny Unity Group features the wildly talented musicians Chris Potter (saxophone), Ben Williams (bass), Antonio Sanchez (drums) and Giulio Carmassi (various instruments). For the first time in more than 30 years-the last being the iconic and influential recording 80/81-Metheny features a tenor saxophone in the front line.

As Metheny puts it himself, "I envisioned building a platform capable of addressing the entire spectrum of things I have done over the years...all in one place. With this incredible line-up of musicians, just about anything is possible."
