Learning Erhu on your own?

How many of you learnt Erhu on your own? Is it possible?

Any recommendations on schools and place to buy an Erhu and roughly how much does it cost? Even before I picked up the guitar, I've always been interested in this instrument but never had the chance to learn more about it.

Any erhu players or self-taught erhu players can share your insights? Thanks!
