Hi all,
The new SP-500 has most features I am looking for but no USB, which is what I wanted badly to act as a midi controller for Acoustica Mixcraft software.
Would getting a midi-usb cable help and whether there are any problems? Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Michael

as long as the korg sp 500 has got midi in and out, you can use a midi to usb interface/cable to connect the synth to computer.

To use it as a midi controller, just have to turn the synth internal sound engine off (local "off"). Pressing the keys now will send only midi data. Within the computer/soft synth, set it to receive this midi data, it will be triggering the sound from soft synth instead.

Theres a page in the sp500 manual(available from korg site) that mentioned bout turning local off. Check over there for more info.

You don't have to set "local off" if all the keyboard does is for inputing midi signals (ie pure midi controller and not as a sound source, using VSTis or other hardware sound modules etc). You only need to do that if the midi signal is fed back to the keyboard (ie PC midi-out -> keyboard midi-in) and you want to generate sound from the keyboard at the same time the you are triggering midi signals from the same keyboard. This is the only time it will produce an "echo". Even if the audio from the keyboard is connected and you don't need sound coming out from the keyboard, you can always turn the volume of the keyboard off (or from the mixer) - "local off" is not needed in this case.
