hey what's the difference between a modulator , a synth and a MIDI controller? they all look like typical keyboards to me thou or are they all just the same but with different people referring to it as different names?

Let me try. A MIDI controller is a keyboard with no "sound engine". It needs to be connected to another sound source, which can be software, a desktop module/synthesizer, etc. A keyboard is used to describe synthesizers using keys as at least one form of input. Conversely, a synthesizer is an instrument that creates electronic sound/music and keyboard synthesizers usually can double duty as a MIDI controller.
