wow!
came back from the concert after a stunning 2h30 performance...
the guys were really cool. the bass player was a killer. the drummer was banging so loud on the drums they had to get the tech to tighten the hi hat cluch a couple of times (and fine tune the drums while the guy was playing)

George Clinton is not jumping around btu his presence is HUGE.
the guy is really cool and his band rocks! (sorry: funks! ;) )

"Flashlight" and "we've got to tear the roof off" made us all jump and sing loud.

I hope some of you could find time to go to this concert!! :)

i remember the red hot chili peppers performing give it away with p-funk on the grammies many years ago. the image of a guy in diapers (gary shider) running about on stage has definitely stuck in my mind and yesterday i got to see it up close (from the 2nd row), haha.

a fully energetic performance, got the crowd (myself included) sitting comfortably on their chairs onto their feet.

on a side note, at least now i know the trumpet and saxophone players during the broken social scene gig are from p-funk.

Our whole team are fans so we went. With a few friends from SOFT too.

And went away quite disappointed.

Sorry choubix, it was quite a collective conclusion that the band was damn sloppy and the drummers were horrible for this genre of music. George Clinton rocks... but he wasn't doing much and he was outta tune and time most of the way. But he looked like a giant Ewok!

Still, it was fun. Just not magical as we had hoped it would be...

i'm curious. what didn't you like about the drums?

It just seems sloppy... I dunno. Maybe, becuz of their legacy, I was expecting more?

But I heard from the Esplanade peeps that 13 of them couldn't make it for the trip due to visa problems. A pity...

the main drummer was completely wasted (the one who inroduced the band at the very beginning. did you take a look at his eyes?) and the female singer should start looking for a normal day job (I really thought she had an horrible voice...)

the guy who was filling in on the drums most of the time (the black guy with a goaty) was one of Miles Davis' bassist (this explains his awkward stance when playing the drums). Yet he was more than decent! :)

I must say that I was not that impressed by their stage performance in itself but the presence of G.Clinton was really great. 30 years of musical history were on stage on that night. Clinton has influenced the quite a lot of people... :)

It really was like a 2.30 h jam session and I'll keep a vivid memory of Flahslight and all the great songs they wrote...

The bassist was great and I could see he was giving a lot (and having a lot of fun). check him out on myspace, his name is "Lige Curry".
I'd say they could have used some more brasses to give a bit more "punch" to their sound (they just had one sax compared to Earth Wind and Fire which had 4...)

The band was really cool as they stayed for a bit after the concert and talked to the people attending the event.

would definitely love to see them again on stage :)

I think the female singer sang really well. For me it was the bass and drums that irritated me. But the sax player was killer.

well, I was at the other end of the spectrum:

the sax was ok (the guy who played with Earth Wind and Fire was a killer and his sound was still fresh in my mind so it played a role I suppose)

To me the female singer was really bad. maybe she danced pretty well but she didnt have the tonal expression/deepness of G.Clinton and G.Shider and I found it a bit shallow.

I was really asking myself the question: WTH is she doing here??

The bassist was a real killer and the drummer was not half bad ;)

next week: Clinic with Nathan East... another killer in singapore!

I thought she wasn't that great... for funk/ soul/ jazz. But I thought she'd be excellent for indie, folk.

Somemore she's got the hippie thing going on...
