A cymbal roll crescendo is a fast roll that is done with felt-tipped sticks, so the sound of the cymbal builds over a short time. The JV-1080 can accomplish this sound with the Orchestral Collection expansion board (SR-JV80-02). In performance mode, select XP-? (the ? is either A, B, C or D, depending on which slot you have the expansion board installed). Select patch 249 (this is the Rhythm Set on the Orchestral Collection board). Then in your sequencer program, place 16 back-to-back notes in one measure (no spaces) at F4 cymbal (the F note in octave 4 on the keyboard). The first note will have velocity=1, the second will have velocity=5, then 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 50, 50, 50, 50 , 50. If the sound is not bright enough, you may have to record the cymbal roll track separately, then post-process it to add treble and reverb, then mix it with the other tracks in the final song. I hope this gives you the sound you need. It works well for me.
