check the back of your machine heads!

hi, i originally posted this tread on the bass forum. think it's pretty useful info.

over the deepavali holiday, i took the liberty of removing the machine heads of my squier p-bass to polish the headstock.

now, the point is i found large rust marks on the back of the machine heads. i wonder how they got there. anyway i used some good old wd-40 and cleaned them up. imagine what will happen if they had the chance to rust over. the machine head could fall apart!

so, do take some time to check the back of your machine heads. you'll never know what you'll find there!

if you look carefully you'll notice the rust is on the centre metal piece holding the gear. not the chrome tread. the moving parts are at the other side of the machine head. if you get what i mean. haha.. pretty hard to explain here.. btw, my bass is only one year old and spent most of it's life in the bag.
