can we talk about this here?

anyway, i had the chance to hear music from a turntable and it sounds soo... different from a cd. i'd descibe it as lush and warm compared to a cd which sounds so dry.

wonder if those super high end dedicated cd players which cost $1k and above be able to sound like a record on a turntable?

i'm a vinly fan now..

i am of the opinion that it has nothing to do with the players, but the vinyls and CDs themselves.

CDs these days are produced with excessive compression to make them seem louder, which is what really makes them sound dry.

this would interest you.

that's so damn interesting, i think i'll try to find a vinyl player and listen to vinyl from now on.

haha, but i'm so broke and vinyl seems to be more ex than CDs rite?

ok, not taht bad, but
how much does the vinyl player cos?
btw it's called a gamaphone rite?
haha

i think those gramophones are "phased out" in production already and i think getting a turntable and having it plugged into some mega huge speaker system is the next best thing you can do and i think it'll cost at least 1k in doing so. but it's very worth it if you have the money.

vinyl mastering is totally different from digital cd mastering. you can make cds sound more "analog" with expensive toys and 24/96 playback but if you're really in love with vinyl then just drop the cash and get a good record player. also records degrade with time and dust so get ready to deal with pops and clicks, unwanted noise and buying warped records

i think my barber has a few of those turntable but they're lyk made of wood lah, (are they still considred turntable? cause my opinion of turntables are the DJ type one lol)

lol, since i'm like going to him to have my hair cut since i'm 5 maybe he can give me a discount when i buy it from him =]=]
ha, that's just my wishfull thinking lah

but seriously, he has like 3 shelves full of vinyls and i always enjoyed my self when i'm going there to have my haircut cause of the music and ambience created man.

haha

theres could be some used vinyl player which can be found at sungei road. Heh, but getting from there can be like buying toto, hit and miss. If dont have, theres plenty other interesting/wtf/duh!!! stuff from there. Oh, recently got people selling porn vcd/dvd as well. Look see look see too long, the seller will scold one. So if wanna buy, just grab and go. Some of the porn prolly no one will put on torrent one also, buy at own risk

and near the area, theres simlim square, somewhere round the 3rd floor, theres shop with a cool/naggy/steady uncle who sell geetar gear, dj tool, cables, mixer and other stuff, theres turntable in the range of 200/300 plus, if wanna buy for fun and listen, can try there. Esden...

if not, can try aldephi, opposite funan, one afternoon prolly enough time to get brochures or at least prices for vinyl player

if you want a very nice analog sound...something like vinyl...
you can try getting a SACD player with a tube output. which is pretty expensive.

off-topic...
this is something i built recently...a tube amp which gives me the very nice analog sound. the ipod is modded to sound better...sounds alittle like vinyl to me.
