Audacity Recording Audio Lag Issue

Hey guys. I'm facing an audio lag issue here.
I'd like to hear my playing while recording and there's always lag.
I searched google and the results generated suggest me to close all other open applications.
Did so and the lag still existed.

Any ideas on how to go around solving this issue?

What interface you using? USB or Firewire?

What sound driver are you using?
Always use the ASIO driver.
If your sound interface has no ASIO driver, try using asio4all from
http://tippach.business.t-online.de/asio4all/

My current setup is:

Guitar> Multiefx > Laptop Mic Input. I bought a converter jack input from simlim.

I don't have the ASIO driver.

I downloaded the ASIO setup file and have installed it.

How do I use it?

Audacity does not support ASIO. It's a pity. You'll may want to use something else. I do not know what other free alternatives you can make use of ASIO for low latency recording.

Did both MME and DirectSound settings fail for you?

There was latency of 1.5 seconds which was pretty bad.

I use M-Aulio Solo and REAPER DAW (Free trial Version) and ASIO of course.
I eventually paid for REAPER US$60.

could be a computer specs issue , because I used audacity for my under $50 diy recording guide. no problems.
