Alright. Hope This will get stickied. its for all you musicians out there to list out a musician or bands of any genre and any time period or 3 songs which are your greatest inspirations and influences.

Johnny Greenwood (Lead Guitarist, Radiohead)

-Brilliant songwriter/composer credited for the unique sound of radiohead.
-Multi-talented instrumentalist.plays viola, organ, piano, xylophone, glockenspiel, ondes martenot and harmonica.
-Uses a whole array of effects pedals really creatively.
-Not a shredder but, talented in the way he writes his parts to create his own unique sound.

Sorry guys got a question here. Everytime I look at the term "Musical Influences", people started posting happily, but it's sad for them not to have an example of their own music to show us the relation.
It's like I influenced by "So and So". So what.
So anyone got any sound clips to share on their own music to really show us "who influenced you"? If not, I can't really relate.
To me. it's another thread of showcasing your fav artists. Not musical influences.
Is it just me who feels this way?

prolly not. i dont think anyone has the right to tell someone that he has not been influenced musically by a particular artist or inspired. Freedom of thought and idealogy is highly valued. dont restrict that.

further more, this is a thread for ur musical influence and not a showcase of ur music to any extent. up to posters discretion whether he actually is influenced by those artists. This is more a, who do i look up to thread.

and what do these artists that we look up to create for us? inspiration which leads to us being influenced by them to be a better musician/ emulate them.

Hi Colarndo i understand what u are saying ;) Well maybe i shall be the first to use my music as a relation to my influences.

www.soundclick.com/changsg <--- this is my music site.

Into the storm <--- Dream Theater

Nobody's Going Home <--- Morcheeba

Standstill <--- Serenaide (yes it's the local band)

Son of the devil <--- Marilyn Manson

and many more.

*I'm in no way trying to promote my music here, you can always opt not to listen ;)*

Anyways, personally i feel that we've all gotta listen to more stuff to expose ourselves. Hopefully with varied influences we can combine those elements into our own unique style.

:smt045 good that u have reference to some of your own work to let us see similarities.

for everyone to get involved(more participation in thread) theres no need to showcase your own work, but its a plus definately.

phanto, batteries recharged eh?

and what do these artists that we look up to create for us? inspiration which leads to us being influenced by them to be a better musician/ emulate them.

sweet child - gnr
master of puppets - metallica

Thelonious Monk (Pianist)

creative and individual improvisational style.

Jaco Pastorius (Bassist)

groundbreaking songwriting. even though he didnt do very much as compared to many others in his short life. And his contributions in weather report were overshadowed by other members, like Zawinul.

Cretu.jpg

Michael Cretu from Enigma.

Loves the way he fuses chants, beats, orchestral elements and modern sounds all into one.

Nick Bracegirdle AKA Chicane.

His chill out tracks are awesome and I always take a listen to my Chicane albums when I need some inspiration and relaxation.

Nobuo Uematsu - composer of FF series (has now left square to set up his own studio) . My music is influenced alot by game music, especially those of nobuo uematsu. I just love video game music so much that i wanna be a video game composer in the future, you can check out my works here ^.^ www.cronlogic.com/tera/promisedemoreel.mp3 . if ure interested, please support my CD when the soft online store is launched too!

Mark Tremonti of Creed, he's got awesome riffs and fingerpicking stuff as well. Plus, as we all know from Alter Bridge's album, he can shred like hell. (though I'm not much into that) Here's him with his signature PRS:

And then there's Ani Difranco, probably my biggest acoustic influence. Great guitar work, fantastic lyrics. She just never ceases to amaze me.
