I noticed that the lyrical aspect of music doesn't get much love on these forums, which is a pity, because to me beautiful lyrics play a big part in making a beautiful song. Why not let's share our favorite lyrics in a song?
One of my favorite has to be Love Rescue Me from U2's Rattle and Hum. It's a song with a country soul to it, a slight folk sentiment accentuated by Bono's harmonica and Bob Dylan's singing on the chorus, but the lyrics have a wistful darkness and regret to it. It's spiritual without being religiously cliched, in fact, it turns religious cliche on it's head with lines like, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow/yea, I will fear no evil/I have cursed thy rod and staff/they no longer comfort me/said love, rescue me...". To me it's everything a good lyric should be, soulful, evocative, simple with flashes of grandeur. What about you guys? Share your favorite lyrics here!
