Its an active dynamic, the kind that's meant to be used with phantom power, quite like the Beta 58.
Under-utilized ever since I bought another mic that was more suited to my voice.
Bought at $240, selling at $180. Lovely bronze grille makes your mic stand out from all the other mics

Hi there, just thought I should let you know that there is no such thing as an "active dynamic". A dynamic mic is just simply a dynamic mic and it does not require phantom power. A Beta 58 is a dynamic mic and does not requirement phantom power. A typical microphone that needs phantom power is known as a condenser mic.

Hi Room430 - I usually wouldn't reply but this is where you have to be corrected. The Encore 200 is in fact an "active dynamic". It is a dynamic microphone with active circuitry. Check it out :) I own one myself and it does run on Phantom Power though it really is a dynamic microphone.

From blue's site: (http://www.bluemic.com/encore200/)

Well, technically the encore 200 is still fundamentally a dynamic mic with an added preamplifier at the back end to modify the signal for higher output and frequency shaping, and perhaps output impedance. The phantom power is for powering the preamplifier and not for the dynamic mic element itself. And the Beta 58 is still a dynamic mic and does not need phantom power.
