The finish has a few small scratches which you might expect in an instrument of this age, but no cracks or dents. I have not retouched them in order to retain the sound quality and charm of the wood. It is a simple handmade unit, nothing fancy, but it sounds wonderful tuned to G-G-C. I bought this instrument in a workshop in the town of Lynchburg Tennessee (the home of Jack Daniels whiskey) in 1979.
