DESCRIPTION

This original Alvarez Yairi design has been very well received in the United States because of the distinctive ebony bridge, inlaid abalone "AY" signature on the black pick-guard and the brilliant abalone binding surrounding the body and the sound hole. The solid ebony fingerboard is also inlaid with abalone markers, and gleaming colourful abalone is inset into a specially molded celluloid binding.

Heartwood Jacaranda Rosewood makes up the sides and the 3-piece back of the DY90. Sections of the back are separated by dividers of inlaid wood marquetry. The neck is made of mahogany, and contains an adjustable steel rod in a magnesium U-channel, which results in a slender neck of superior strength.

Solid Canadian spruce makes up the top of the top of the DY90. Parabolic top bracing is hand-carved and sanded to achieve the full basses and clear trebles inherent in this instrument. Internal lacquering adds to the acoustic advantages of the DY90. Gold Yairi precision gears are non-slip for accurate tuning (currently replaced with nice dark Ebony buttons but original gold-plated ones are kept).
