"You may well know about the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt led by Moses but how much do you know about the Long March – a significant and momentous chapter in the recent history of China?
On 18 September 1931, the Imperial Japanese Army initiated the Mukden Incident and occupied Manchuria. It casted a greedy eye over the Central Plains and had the intention of invading China. At that perilous moment, a group of young people formed an army to defend the country, fought bravely to resist the enemies and pursue freedom, equality, democracy and liberation. The troop tracked 25,000 li (12,500km) courageously and resolutely on foot from the southern to the northern part of the country. The troop numbered 300,000 at the start of their journey and only 30,000 survived.
This grand concert is brought to you by over 120 performers, together with a grand orchestra from XMU and is jointly organised by NUSS and the Xiamen University Alumni Association of Singapore.
Performed in Mandarin with English and Chinese surtitles."
