Many are using the term "semi-acoustic" for acoustic guitar that comes with a pickup...

especially the newbies..and its spreading like fire till everyone thought its the right word...

Semi acoustic is actually an electric with a semi hollow body...

Electro-acoustic guitar: An acoustic guitar that has a pickup.

By the way, fully hollow bodies are also semi-acoustics. Not only semi-hollows.
