Singapore Street Festival - WoW! The Street Festival Award is all about music.
For SSF, music is essential to our lives! Music makes the most of the community that is passionate and opinionated about music; your music, someone else’s music; all music.
SSF believe in connecting one another through music.
WoW! The Street Festival Award is a yearly competition alternating between band and singing.
This year 2012 is band competition.
This competition is open to all in Singapore, unlimited to different genre of music. There is no age limit.
Judging criteria
Rhythm control
Very good, guitars played with comfortable tempo – drums tended to push the tempo, bass passages were scrambled showing little control...etc
Interpretation of style
Examples – Your original approach to using unusual chord progressions really shows up in the chorus, the alternation between major and minor chords really reflects the conflict in he lyrics, you can really hear the influence of metal/pop/fusion here...
Or Good reflection of pop style – perhaps more throaty vocals needed clean guitar sound for the chorus rather than distorted...
Technique
Examples Guitar tuning was flat/sharp. Solid guitar paying – developing technique, excellent drumming technique, great guitar solo with fluid accuracy and articulation. Vocals tended to mumble, pitching in vocals was flat/ sharp.
Confidence/presentation
Good presentation, take the time at the end of the performance, remember you’re on stage. Remember to face the audience/ make audience connection. Great stage performance, you had fun – great costumes; ability to entertain audiences.
Band dynamics
Great connection between all band members – you watch and interact with each other therefore making entries tight and controlled – you work as a unit and not as individuals. Need to concentrate on interacting with each other - watch for tempo changes - end of solos - controlled pauses etc.
