Wood hoop snares

Hi.
I have some inquiries about snare drums with wood hoops. (Like yamaha's Akira Jimbo & John Robinson snares) How much does it affect a drum's sound as compared to the metal hoops? I know it with probably give a really nice side-stick sound & all, but how bout when only the skin is hit? Does it ring more? or less?
Anybody own such a snare? Please fill me in yeah.. thanks.. :wink:

I don't know if it is true... but i think a wooden rim adds to the warmth of the snare... but be warned though... they usually wear out quicker than metal hoops do...
