Juz curious....it seems that there's a lot of our local bands has come out with their own originals which some of it is realy superb and coolzz...so juz wondering when wil our local music be recoqnised in international level n wil it happen?

We have to wait for people who are willing to groom local bands. But i think, give SGreans a few more years. I think they can make it.

but before all these.. u have to get local music into local people first... if singaporean dont even support our own local music... where do u think we can go?

I'm starting to support local band......my first is ronin....ever since i watched them jam at power jam.

wat gordonzz say is true.... many local dun even give adamn abt us... they rather pay a few hundreds to attend a boyband or galband shows here rather than watching local gigs which is most to most 10bucks...or even free...
the quality of albums or EP by local bands is not tat fascinating compared our western counterparts......
lets put it this way..... a person walks in a cd shop.holds 2 cds. one is Robbie William's latest album, another is a LOCAL BAND's album.both cost 18bucks. i would bet that he/she will rather get tat Robbie's cd.

it will take reli long to be accepted here. but it is true tat there are lots lots n lots of talented bands here.(too much for me to name out all) :p
now i'm lost :? wat the hell am i trying to say... hope u all understand... sori ah...

support ur local scene!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yup.. hideo.. its not about you listening to local bands only.. i guess almost all of us here does.. but that's not the least enuff

let's wait to the day where local band's cd's would take up a section or a corner of a music store.. hmv, music junction, towerrecords etc..

sumtimes i just wondered.. americans can support their americans' band.. blink 182.. all american reject's etc.. british bands too.. why would asian always looked up to american's bands but not our own asian bands? .. and why do caucasians do not look up to asian's bands too? i guess we have alot to do

hmm.. localbands.. must have standard oso la.. not i bad or what.. if song sucks music sucks.. underaged.. wait a few more yrs b4 coming out album larh.. imagine u sae robbie album and a local band cd.. ok take me ah.. i will buy the local one.. den go home found out its a 3 piece 14, 15 old boys singing their 'pop punk rock' 8O  i think i would rather go back and exchange for the robbie one  not wrong if ur young making music larh... but theres always disadvantages to it.

MY OWN OPINONS

let us giv support towards each other n try to talk among ur frens about how good our local band album instead of highlighting on foreign bands..coz smetime i believe word of mouth is much more effective aside frm our media involvement...

not true guys. electrico no. 1 on perfect 10.

singapore music will take off.

but to be recognized in int lvl... face it, probably we all abhor pop music like stef sun and stuff.. but they are recognised elsewhere already.

i think it's not so impt to be recognized int'l for a band, but rather to be good and make music that people can enjoy that is ultimately the focus of the band. having unrealistic targets (i want to be like gnr or the darkness or blink182 or simple plan or etc have such big reputations) makes it difficult for a band to function since they are carrying the burden of being "number 1" in their minds.

true larh but different people different target larh 8)

Actually Singapore music has a international standing already, but mainly in the mandrin sector, and oriental market. But mostly associated with teeny bop bop market, the pop industry is really big, we boast quite a number of exports already.

Sadly, the evergreen days are over too. I think there are a number of classics of Singapore history too.

Also sadly, we can't say the same for our english sector. Maybe it just still in the early stage of maturing.

The same goes for our english TV productions. The only type of sitcoms we produce which appeals to the mass is only comedy. Action flicks really sucks with terribly inexperienced producing (we can have villians called 'click click man'). Dramas are even worst, evident of trying too hard to be sophisicated. stick to your roots man. The only shine dwells in our own identity and past.

We just try too miseribly to take on other people's identity. Even productions in topics on ourselves are mainly cliche themed, and one sided. We don't need to think about the international opinion on us, when even our own people are critical on our produce.

I say, WAKE UP YOUR IDEA man!!! Don't be swayed by other opinions, find you own road to take and have faith in yourselves. Even if in the end you don't make it, at least you can boast that you did it your own way.

why would we want to talk about international level when the mass majority of the local people dont even know of most local bands...... support the band because you want it, buy their demo/albums, support them by going to gigs. As for international level, that is another different thing else...

before electrico, there was concave scream, lizard convention etc, whose songs went into local chart too, but where are they now. Back then when there are radio program playing local music for 1 hr everyweek, it did have more people knowing bout local music. But what happen to those program, it got cut off after a while.....

probably the recent wide coverage is a good thing, but for international level or bringing the local music scene to the front, forget it. One day when the news is of no commercial value, no one will remember those, cept for those people who probably been supporting local music all along, before the coverage and after.....

the cycle of things are just too similar to what happen before....the hype of things to come and the decline of it when no one else talk about it....

The only way for Singapore's music to get recognised internationally is if we export them to foreign shores. Do constant touring and promotion abroad.

And it seems on the local front, only musicians, bands and a few supporters will ever really support the local scene. It seems to the music buying majority, we are pretty much non-existent.

Its weird right here in SG, cos the "non-support" doesn't only apply to music, but also other aspects as well like soccer and media. It seems Singaporeans live in an instant noodle society, that means we will only support if that person already have success. We want instant success instead of nurturing a talent for it to grow over time.

Whatever it is i hope that there will be better things to come for the local scene in the future

Cheers

I agree with the touring overseas idea or wadeva. Cos Sgreans most prob will support local bands if they make in big in the western society or in taiwan for mandarin bands or Japan for j-rock.

Actually, on hind sight. Being a good musician and band is one thing. With today's POP culture, it depends a lot on connections (guanxi). There are plenty of bands who are famous as a ONE HIT WONDER. Why, because some hot label records company fashion them so.

So many other bands who just become POP based on image alone, they are not a real band in real life.

Maybe our local producers don't have enough muscles in the international market. Or those who have, don't bother about the local boys anyway.

But us opening up and allowing things like busking, is a step forward. True talents shine from some back alley or some dinky joint. Don't give up.
