will future kids be better musicians?

just did some thinking.... do you think so?

with so much information available nowadays thanks to th wonders of the internet.... kids nowadays just have to search the net for tabs to songs or even techniques for playing as compared to when there wasn't this luxury.....

i still think its up to the individual who must have the drive to be the best..... even if he/she doesn't have as much tools eg internet, money for classes etc... for reference or skill training....

what do you guys/gals think?

Define 'better'.

I see a lot of kids these days that can play faster but none of them can play 'better' (to me anyway)

Good music is about soul, emotion and raw talent. You cant pick it up in a classroom or by downloading tabs from the net. You CAN sit in your bedroom and practice until you become very quick and technically proficient but unless you can get out and play infront of people AND make a connection with your audience then you wont be a 'better' musician.

To innovate is to be a better musician. When was the last time someone in popular music was recognised as an innovator? Given that these kind of musicians are a bit thin on the ground lately I'd have to say no, the kids of today will not be 'better' musicians.

Just my 0.2c , I'm sure a lot will disagree......good discussion topic though!

I don't that the kids of today will become better musicians.

In today's modern society , you have the internet , TV , movies , computer games etc and other forms of entertainment. If would be harder for a musician to stay put and practice on his instrument to pass his time with all these newer forms of entertainment surfacing overtime...

I agree with DoubleBlade, kids nowadays have too many distractions. I think this will level out with the advantage of access to more resources, so it'll be the same. In the end only those who are dedicated will become really good.

Pier.

faster, cleverer, more savvy and better musicianship doesnt equate to making better music. too much info all the time and somehow pple u lose yr soul. corny but true.

Haha people in the past had less things to do so they would spend more time on their instruments.

i think information can lead to knowledge, which equates to power...
just my 2cents... oh...mine's probably worth 50cents perhaps

yes, info can lead to power only if u harness it right and it gives u right knowledge to act correctly......watever

Knowledge does not equal to action. I'm sure all smokers know smoking is bad. They have knowledge. Then why smoke? Same goes for many things. It's called the "knowledge-practice gap". Knowing something does not equal to doing something.

Doubleblade hit the nail on the head. I agree with him.

Yea, agree with doubleblade.

I also think how well the generation of musicians are depends on what kind of music is popular at the time..

And right now, it seems music is sadly turning to R&B and a lot of synthesised sounds.

Not that R&B is completely bad. But the fully artificial sounds lack character.

but you have to consider the fact that kids nowadays are more educated... their barains can withstand more punishment (considering how schools torture them nowadays) they can be very technically sound with so much info online.... but i still think practise and the want to be a good musician is the driving force to be a better musician..... you can only bring a camel to water... but you can't make it drink.....

I just tried to imagine myself born 10 years later than i was... And realised I might not end up being a musician at all! Like someone here said, there's so much out there these days.

It's like last time people can just play guitar for 8 hours and stuff, cause they don't have much stuff to do. Now i cant even get 2 hours to play a day, how to be good? And now people barely learn from hearing, all is tabs and stuff ...
