Why choose folk? Why choose classical? Please help.

Hi, I would like to buy myself a semi-acoustic guitar soon. But before that, I would like to know the difference between the two. I own a TGM acoustic guitar and I like the fret gap. A friend of mine owns an acoustic(which I'm not too sure of the brand) but with a much larger gap. After reading some posts from this forum, I came to a conclusion that my TGM guitar is a folk type and my friend's is a classical type. May I know whether my conclusion is true? I would like to buy a semi-acoustic but with fret gaps just like my current TGM acoustic guitar. Is it possible? Or does it only comes with large fret gaps? It would be much appreciated if you could explain to me more about the folk acoustic guitar and the classical acoustic guitar and yes, maybe you could also include the difference between the two and which you prefer playing.

Please help clear my doubts. Thanks.

A classical guitar is nylon string and folk is steel string.

If you put nylon on folk its ok, but steel with spoil the classical's neck.

They both have diff playing styles also, like piano and organ

Most electric players will prefer steel string AKA acoustic cos the neck is smaller and frets are not too wide

Classical guitars give the more spanish feel and sound(when played well)

IMO, play classical better cos its harder....

Oh thanks! But is there any place selling both folk and classical semi-acoustic guitars so that I can try both types before I finally decide on one?

Swee Lee...

Classical n folk guitar both different sound. I personally find classical guitar better for softer songs n folk better for chord-heavy songs. a solo on folk guitar would definitely sound better.
