Hello softies,
as mentioned on the title, i was wondering which particular types (Active / Passive), Models or brands of Studio Monitors are good for a certain price range? (doesnt matter first or second hand)

$400-$600 Range?

$600-$800 Range?

$800< Range?

Personally im looking at the $400-$600 price range, Active Studio Monitors. But I'm not really sure which one is good for my room Setup.
My room is typical, at 3m by 4m.

Have been introduced to the Rokit 5 G2 and 6 G2. The Yamaha MS50M? Any other recommendations?

I'm also running a i7 desktop (Windows 7) > Zoom R16 audio interface > Cubase 6 > Bose Companion 2 (current speakers which I have given up all hope for, thus this thread)

Mackie MR5 mk2

Check out the Mackie MR5 mk2.
These are very good for about $550 and can be tested at Sim Lim Tower level 2, Valentine Music.
Talk to ichun.

After that you can come over to my showroom on the same floor to test the PMC TB2S-A2 :)

can check out this brand called sonodyne, I'm using the SM 50AK pretty good for a 5 inch woofer speaker. There's student price for that in this shop called resolution it's at clarke quay.
I also use Yamaha HS 80 which is also pretty good for the price.

To me how to choose monitors is about what do you want to hear more. what genre do you mix? these are the questions to ask when choosing a monitor

The price for the sonodyne sm50ak is about $900+ for 1 pair
yamaha is $1000 for a pair
sonodyne sm 300 is 3800 for a pair
The sonodyne SM300 is also very good, 1 of the cheapest 3 way monitors around. Also available to try out at resolution.

hi thanks for your replies guys.
@likui, i usually mix from Pop, alternative rock, to heavy stuff like Metalcore, metal. Occassionally some dance stuff.

Particularly looking for a speaker that has a good response, not so much coloration. :O

KRK for affordability and decent performance. Your soundcard and cables - both power and signal - will also make a difference not to mention room acoustics.
