Too many to choose from.. im sure there are many books out there which are more informative and catered for beginners unlike your typical 'guitar for dummies'.

Please advise!

Many Many Many thanks :p

Which guitar book?

Hi,

it really depends on what genre you are looking at,

if classical: i recommend

Hal Leonard Classical method for guitar, pretty up to date and the exercises/lessons are concise and easy. however i think taking lessons is always the best for classical if not picking up bad habits will be costly to undo

contemporary

to be honest, i think there is not one book which is good at all in the market for beginners. they focus too much on the wrong things like learning to read notes when chords should be more important/fun and scales. so in my opinion i think its better to take lessons or go to justin sandercoe (wwww.justinguitar.com i think?). you will know what i mean after a while by wrong focus because in my experience you will waste your money if you buy a book that doesnt cater to what you want. furthermore it goes back to learning bad habits again as theres no one to point out your mistakes.

yes it might cost a 2 or 3 times more but you can just opt and take 4 lessons then go off on your own.

I do not intend to go classical with the guitar..

My main interest gears towards general pop / country and hence i opted for the acoustic instead of the electric.

Justinguitar.com is a good avenue.. looking forward to more options. I was hoping for a book as i do not carry a laptop with me all the time.

For my case..

I think is still best to learn from friends who are good in guitars or videos and pickup from there.. and then slowly learn the rhythmic pattern from books..

*speaking of country genre, my 1st ever guitar song is Country road by john denver haha

just my 2cents :) and all the best~

Tried a lot of books, and none did me any good. It's best if you have a teacher to teach you what you should so rather than a teacher giving you a book to study on your own without any instructions, right? Though I didn't want to spend money on a teacher. So I went youtube instead and found the most awesome teacher ever. :j He teaches both acoustic and electric material. I've subscribed to three of his channel.

If you wanna learn how to play a song, then go here: http://www.youtube.com/user/martyzsongs/videos
Here if you want to learn the concepts, theory, etc.: http://www.youtube.com/user/youcanlearnguitar/videos
He also uploads here, where his friends/employee also appears, though there are duplicate lessons: http://www.youtube.com/user/youcanlearnguitar/videos

And also take note that country music doesn't necessarily restrict to acoustic only. Maybe someday you would try the electric too.

Cheers,
ZD. :j
