Where to learn saxophone?

Hey guys! It's been a long time since I visited this thread. Used to play guitar some time back but too bad my passion for it switched to some other hobbies.

Anyway, I am now thinking of learning to play the saxophone. Main reason is because I have just finished school and waiting to enlist into the NS and another reason is that my GF's birthday is coming and I would like to give her a surprise by playing on that day.

Since this is a music forums I guess this would be a good place to ask how I should get started and where is a good place to learn. Will I be able to be good enough to play a simple song in one month's time?

Hope fellow musicians here would be able to advise me!

Regards,
Ed

any particular song you wanna play for your gf?
and when is her bday?
like you i played the guitar years back and switched to sax

Hi Daniel,

Hmm, I don't have any particular songs in mind right now, but her bday is on the 16th next month. Can you point me a direction on where can I get started? And do I have to purchase my own sax the very day I start my first lesson?

Thanks.

hey you reply real fast
preferably you should have ur instrument unless you're learning from yamaha where saxophones are provided less mouthpiece
and if someone would lend u their instrument for ur "performance"with ur gf

Since u don't have much time left it's better to know wad songs u wanna perform and focus on tt song first

Haha, yup, I guess that is really a short time to learn an instrument with totally no knowledge whatsoever with it.

Is Yamaha the only place where I can learn?
Another question, what is the cost range of a sax?

Thanks!

there are other places where u can find instructors too
but if you're talking bout schools then i guess yamaha is better but also more expensive
hm.... regarding the range it varies
if you're really tight on budget u could go for the china horns ard $500 -$800 for alto sax

if u could afford more, go for yamaha student alto sax, yas23 (if i remember the model and price correctly) which is like $1.5k

else u should go for the yamaha pro series, yas62 ard 3k
or selmer tt kind of range

Thanks Daniel for the info!

Guess I have to consider before investing in one. Shall take a look at Yamaha tomorrow. Thanks once again! Hopefully there are more saxophone players here which can contribute. :)
