where to go for guitar set up

I just got a telecaster recently and would like to get it set up. Where should I go? I read that Beez is good but I'm not sure where his shop is, and if he is still in the business.

Also, how much should a set up cost? If this helps to gauge the cost: I want to lower the action and also take care of the slight buzzing on the low E string.

Please recommend, thanks lots

Yes beez is good and still in the business, he is located at peninsula shopping centre basement 1, where many other guitar-related shops are. Alternatively you can get it set up at tymc

Not too sure of current rates, about $40 I suppose

Definitely, NOT at TYMC.

Beez @ #B1-34, Excelsior Shopping Ctr.

Good luck!

Yeah... TYMC's way of setting pickup height is to put it as close to the pickup as possible. *shakes head*. Anyway do try out Sound Alchemy as well! I think they charge abt $40 for setups. But best if you call them to double check

TYMC set up isn't thaaaaaat bad but they just tend to screw up / do an okay job for installation of nuts pickups and such.

I go to Beez.

Beez is the best... went to him based on a recommendation of a friend back in 09'. Dude's like Yoda of musical instrument restoration.

What's wrong with tymc setup?

First time sent (despite friend's strong objection) due to Beez's irregular operating hours (strongly recommended to call him up first!) Had to be sent twice!! But still failed!!!! Guess they only understand & do fixed-bridge guitars.
Customer service (over the phone) was also bad as they have stand-in part timer kids to tend to calls & infos not properly communicated between themselves. The perm staffs looks ok, though.

I say, learn to do it yourself, then buy yourself a beer/pack of cigs/macdonalds after you're done with that money. Its not that hard, plus you get to set it according to what you like best.

Its not THAT hard... And to think I spent three years of my childhood paying $40~ every few months...

I second that, strongly. Many vids on YouTube guiding on the know-how..the only reason I sent them is because of pure laziness & to check out their credibilities.. Haha..!!

Unless you've got a Floyd that needs some expert direction, i second YouTube.

Or else, i'll go with Mike @ SV. But i think he mans the Woodlands Outlet nowadays. So it MIGHT be out of your way if you don't stay nearby.

After a couple of high E breakages and some severe heartache and walletache,

i managed to do my own floyd setups. Anything screw up just go back to Beez for loving tender care.

Is tymc setup really that bad? I've sent 2 strat before... The setup not that bad.. But not perfect... I think mike SV strat setup is better...

May I know what Beez's number is? I can't find it on the internet. Unless its purposely kept a secret...

I already brought it to one of the more reputable shops, didn't work out very well.

I visited beez last year and got one of my guitars set up by him, and i regrettably say that I didnt like the way he handles my guitar and the outcome from it. Did not feedback or elaborate here since he is a great guy and such a veteran.

But maybe it's cos I have been spoilt by Malcolm Tan's services. Not cheap, but damn what a setup. Surprised no one mentioned him here. Then there's Randolf, there's KC... etc

Dear fade2b14ck,

it's alright man i had the same experience as you, just the exact opposite.

Didn't wanna comment much on the setup since it was my first time at Malcolm's. Gotta let him do his thing ya know? I went home a little disappointed though there's no denying Malcolm is very good and he is very much mentioned here, just not in this thread.

if nothing's wrong with the guitar inherently i'd go Beez, also more convenient in town.

If you know something's not right with your guitar.. like my neck had a problem with the truss rod which affected everything else.. i'd go Malcolm. He did a great job on my strat.. i've never had it play so well before.. i can barely put it down now.
