Where can i get good transformer for Amp heads

hi guys,

where can i get the correct transformer for my 150 watt head that runs at 120 volts? i tried alot of different transformers at a electrical shop and none of them seems to work. please recommend me a good Transformer.

I tried the 150watt transformer and it works for a while then it cut off due to the thermal cut-off function in it. So i tried the 300watt transformer but it only lasted for a few seconds and power is cut off at the transformer. And i dont understand why.

You need to know the power consumption of the amp, in Watts; this is not the same as the sound output ( 150 Watts). If it’s not stated in the manual (check online), then a good starting point is to multiple the fuse rating by the voltage (Amps x Volts = Watts) and then add some. Its important to get a step-down transformer that has enough meat.

I cant find any thing regarding the power consumption online and on the manual. It just give 150watts :???:..It's fuse is 4A slow-blow X 120V (AC power)
so which is 480Watts. I will need a 500watts and above transformer?

MadWerewolfBoy > Thats what i wanted at 1st. It's really expensive but it's the safest method than the step down transformer.

Hydesg > yeah i think i should get a 1000watt transformer. Mesa replied me and calculated the power consumption for me.

this is what mesa replied.

take the fuse value (in this case, 4a) & multiply it by the voltage the amp is wired for (117v) & then DOUBLE that number:
4 x 117= 468 x2= 936.

936 is your magic #.

HOWEVER... we really do not recommend using step up/ down transformers, as they can (potentially) cause issues with your amp.
I would recommend that you have the transformer changed over to the proper voltage. you can contact your local distributor for more info. Here is a link to the list of countries where we have distribution:

I bought the 1000watt transformer and 4A slow-blow fuse. but i activate them the fuse kept blowing. PLS HELP ME !! OMFG :(

Is your Rectifier a domestic (ie, meant for sale within North America only) or an export model? From the schematics I've found online, it seems that export models have additional voltage taps in the power transformer that allows you to change the voltage. Check with the seller and if it is an export model, have a amp tech redo the wiriing.

If it's a domestic, get a Mercury Magnetics transformer for the amp you have and has the multiple voltage taps.

im not sure about tt . i will ask the seller . i bought it off from
ebay. im bringing the amp
down to guitar workshop for servicing. this thing is killing me.zzz

I managed to play the head for 10mins before i killed it by using the WRONG transformer or fuse. All thanks to the electrical shop that said the transformer will be okay. FML

I'm sure there are other mesa users around here, just that they haven't seen this thread or something. maybe u could consult Randolf? his soft nick here is embryo

Alright thanks a lot. I've already send an email to mesa and ask them about it. And in the meanwhile, it's at repair. It's pretty disappointing as it spoil on the 1st day i receive it. damn.

Yeah i played it for like 10mins only. maybe short circuit or power tube failure.
the repair is quoted $80 excluding parts. :(
