I was lucky -- the dude who taught me guitar was a good friend, and almost from the moment I started learning, I had the experience of playing together with a friend. If you get the right people together to learn from or learn with, you're ready to jam whenever!

I think it depends on the skill level of the people you jam with? If others are super pro, you better be pro too. If others are noob, then you can be noob too. lol. As long as you have fun, have similar goals and have a good vibe.
