USB 1.1 is only a problem for 24/96 (and above) AUDIO recording.
If you are using it for MIDI, it has more than enough power to run 8x8 midi in/out without breaking into a sweat.

USB 2.0 can cope with 24/96 recording easily and is supposed to have a bigger bandwidth than Firewire 400 (which is what most of us non-mac users are on). However, it is more likely to glitch (based on equipement reviews rather than my own view), especially in the early incarnation. So most users are still on Firewire. On some system such as mine, there is no Firewire in/out so I am limited to USB 2.0 unless I get a adapter PCI card.

Bottom: if you are using USB just for MIDI, even the measly USB 1.1 is more than enough. AND there is NO problem.
