What really killed The Rev??

NORMALLY, I don’t like receiving what I call “prophet of doom” or spam emails. You know, those that tell you that if you don’t send it out to 10 other people, bad things will happen, and if you do send it out, you’ll win Singapore Idol.

But someone sent this to me, about how the lack of sleep can kill seemingly healthy and fit people and it got me thinking: Like if Brittany Murphy and The Rev died of natural causes, then this might be the reason wouldn’t it?

The Rev would keep late nights, right? Probably sleeping less than the recommended “beauty sleep” (ie, seven to eight hours). Could the lack of sleep have done it for him? I mean, helovewas 28, Brittany was 32! Hardly able to die from the other natural cause known as old age.

Read and decide for yourselves… Btw, this was taken from The India Post – I’m not making this up.(http://www.theindiapost.com/2009/11/23/what-killed-ranjan-das-and-lessons-for-corporate-india/)

BY AKINCHAN PRIYA DAS. A month ago, many of us heard about the sad demise of Ranjan Das from Bandra, Mumbai, India. Ranjan, just 42 years of age, was the CEO of SAP-Indian Subcontinent, the youngest CEO of an MNC in India. He was very active in sports, was a fitness freak and a marathon runner. It was common to see him run on Bandra’s Carter Road. Just after Diwali, on 21st Oct, he returned home from his gym after a workout, collapsed with a massive heart attack and died.. He is survived by his wife and two very young kids.

Ranjan Das apparently kept a healthy lifestyle

It was certainly a wake-up call for corporate India. However, it was even more disastrous for runners amongst us. Since Ranjan was an avid marathoner (in Feb 09, he ran Chennai Marathon at the same time some of us were running Pondicherry Marathon 180 km away), the question came as to why an exceptionally active, athletic person succumb to heart attack at 42 years of age.

Was it the stress? While Ranjan had mentioned that he faced a lot of stress, that is a common element in most of our lives. We used to think that by being fit, one can conquer the bad effects of stress. So I doubted if the cause was stress.

The Real Reason. However, everyone missed out a small line in the reports that Ranjan used to make do with 4-5 hours of sleep. This is an earlier interview of Ranjan on NDTV in the program ‘Boss’ Day Out’: http://connect.in.com/ranjan-das/play-video-boss-day-out-ranjan-das-of-sap-india-229111-807ecfcf1ad966036c289b3ba6c376f2530d7484.htmllove Here he himself admits that he would love to get more sleep (and that he was not proud of his ability to manage without sleep, contrary to what others extolled).

The Evidence. Last week, I was working with a well-known cardiologist on the subject of ‘Heart Disease caused by Lack of Sleep’. While I cannot share the video nor the slides because of confidentiality reasons, I have distilled the key points below in the hope it will save some of our lives..

I sleep a lot. It's not how much you sleep, it's how early. I don't know how people can make do with little sleep, it really ruins my day if I get less than 7 hours of sleep.

im being told regularly by my buddy that how long you live is proportionate to how much you sleep, in this case, it may be true..

Brutha Chris...

I've had a few friends who dropped mysteriously like flies despite having a so called 'positive& healthy' lifestyle.

Goes to show, life is unpredictable.

We shouldn't worry about Death, it comes to us all. Just live to the full or at least knowing that you've done all that you could.

Learn to let go when you have to.

An Em minor chord changes to an A9 by letting go of one finger, you never know if we apply that in Life, we may experience new (er ) things.

Prayers goes out to the family of the deceased.

Oh btw to the thread starter, there's no way to prevent dying. No point thinking of what caused his death, except for the fact that it was his time to die. No way science can tell someone he's going to die. Sure, smoking 10 packs a day and eating KFC will most probably make you live with more health problems than those StandChart Marathon fanboys(who are everywhere), but I've known super health nuts who just get stroke suddenly.

I will leave you with a quote from Bill Hicks

"Keith Richards outlived Jim Fixx, the runner and health nut. The plot thickens. You remember Jim Fixx? This human cipher used to write books on jogging. Now, what do you lovelovelovelovelovelovelove write about jogging? "Right foot, left foot, faster, faster, oh hell, I dunno, go home, shower." Pretty much covers the jogging experience, I do believe. Then this doofus goes out and has a heart attack and dies … while jogging. There is a God. "Right foot, left foot, hemorrhage.""

This is some deep sh*t man.

Love the Hick's quote brutha!

This is simple.
God killed The Rev.
It fits.

on a more serious note,
this reminds me of Wayne Thunder of The Boredphucks / The Suns death.
30. Died in his sleep suddenly. Never smoked, never drinked, ate healthily.

Just one of those things that happens.
